    Posted: April/12/09 at 1:52am
Each year Union Lodge #38 in Kingston, TN hosts a cave degree held in a natural cave. This year is very special to us in East TN, since the MWGM for the year is from this Lodge, and has been a very vocal supporter for the Widows Sons every time he gets a chance. We hope to return this support by having a big turn-out of Widows Sons. To help accomplish this, camping will be available at my place, with some festivities that nite.  Details of the degree are below:
Thumbs Up
AUGUST 21, 2010.

A TENNESSEE MM Degree will be conferred by the Hiram Lodge #7 Civil War Reinactors Degree Team. On Friday night August 20, an E.A. Degree will be conferred by Palmer Lodge #372, Fort Erie Ontario.

I am already looking forward to the cave Degree in 2010.  Had such a great time this year not only being part of the degree team from Florida but meeting all the great Widows Sons brothers that attended.  Walt we might take you up on that camping in 2010.   I'll try to get some more Florida Widows Sons to come up with me.  I think the GG being so close had a big impact on our attendence.  Anyway, great to meet you and the others from your chapter.

Big D - ask Stickman and Blue about the 2009 Cave Degree and the Yellow Dog Degree - Woof Woof Woof.

I posted the picture but at the time wasn't able to post a report.

First off, the LaFollette chapter is top shelf!  Brothers Jimmy, Lennie and Pres. Cotton met Blue and myself a little ways before we got to Kingston.  We were able to ride in together and that in itself made us feel special.  They made sure we got something to eat right away and helped us get settled into our hotel  room.  They were patient as Blue insisted on getting cleaned up before we rode to lodge.  Once we got to lodge, we got to meet up with Walt, Cornbread, Roadkill, Stitch from Florida, Wookie, Eric and Joel, WM of Union #38.

In short order we (noobies), along with several other brothers were marched upstairs and into lodge and conferred on by PGWM K.I. Wright the "Yellow Dog" degree.  That was a lot of fun and I will remember it always Thumbs Up

Later we attended lodge with 257 other masons.  This was the largest group of masons I have ever sat in lodge with in my 26 years as one.  The South Carolina brethren did a great job putting on the degree.  They were animated and fun to watch.  It was good to look to my right and see Cornbread and Jimmy on my left.  Being surrounded by Widows Sons in a Masonic lodge is a feeling that can't be put into words and I think 257 is a number that will be hard to beat.

I can also attest to the fact that the LaFollette Chapter is being led by a good group of brothers.  What stood out to me was how they valued each others opinions on each and every subject matter, very organized and professional each and every one.  For that matter, I think I will be able to bring some light to our next Dixie Travelers meeting on how to be a better Widows Sons thanks to my observations in Kingston.  Keep up the good works brothers.

I wish that I could have spent more time in Kingston but I couldn't miss seeing my brothers in Louisville... Smile

i highly recomend this one brethern if you never been, or if you have been come back again. it's a great experience and a lot of fun. the Tn. MWGM for 2010 is a big supporter of ours and a big turnout would only make that support stronger. hope to see everyone there that can make it.

As a brother from the Notheast, (MA Grand Chapter) I am thinking this will be a great event.  Pressed for time it may need to be an iron butt ride down on Friday and back on Sunday.  Anyone from the Northeast interested in putting a plan together with me get in touch.  I hope to hear from Maine, NH, MASS (already have some interest here), and CT Chapters about making a trek South.

CaptH, we would love to see some of our brothers from the NorthEast (can you say Yankees (not the baseball team)).  I can attest that the Tennessee brothers are fantastic hosts.  I have been to 6 out of the last 7 Cave degrees and not only have I had a great time, met some neat brothers, but I have learned alot about the degree work from other Grand Jurisdictions.
Also, if you are not a Yeller Dog yet (woof, woof, woof), you will enjoy joining the Dog Pound.
Hope to see you there.

Just to bump, here's a link to the official site. Once again, anyone interested in coming down and camping, I've got a spot for you. Anyone wanting info on motels in the area, let me know, and I can send that also. I'd hate for the Widows Sons to be out-numbered by the other Masonic riding organizations, like almost happened last year.

Here's the link:

The bikes did look good all lined up on the street across from the lodge.

I will be riding up the day of the degree.  Will there be someone at the Lodge that can give me directions to the cave if I am running a bit late, because I noticed  that the lunch was until 12:00 and the degree didn't start until 13:00.

There should be someone at the Lodge. If you P.M. me your route for coming up, I may be able to give you directions straight to the cave and maybe save you some time.

This is a map from the Lodge to the cave. However, some may not be going to the cave from the Lodge. If traveling east on I-40, take exit 360, turn left at top of ramp. If traveling west on I-40, take exit 360, turn right at top of ramp. As soon as you see a church, start looking for a narrow road on the left. Hopefully, we will have better signs this year, or better yet, someone posted at the intersection. If you are coming up I-75 from south of Knoxville, you will want to take I-40 west toward Nashville at the interchange.

What day and time are you brothers from Alambama arriving.  We can do like last year meet you before you get here and ride in together.
